22 Jump Street Score - Seriously Underrated?
Okay, so I just re-watched 22 Jump Street and while the movie itself is freaking hilarious (Ice Cube is a national treasure, let's be real), I'm starting to think the score by Mark Mothersbaugh is seriously overlooked. I mean, everyone remembers the jokes and the action, but does anyone else obsess over the music like I do? Specifically, there's this cue that plays during the whole 'Jenko finds his true calling as a football bro' montage. It's got this super-brooding, almost faux-epic feel to it, but it's also genuinely kinda moving? I know, I know, it's 22 Jump Street, but the way Mothersbaugh uses the score to play with the emotions of the scene, even when it's all completely absurd, is just brilliant. It's not just background noise; it enhances the comedy. Am I the only one who thinks this? Or are there other Mothersbaugh/22 Jump Street score-heads out there? What are your favorite cues? Maybe I'm just losing it, but I think it's some of his best work in comedy, honestly. Let me know your thoughts - maybe it's time for a full soundtrack release beyond just a few tracks on the movie soundtrack!
