As Above, So Below: Claustrophobia Fuel!
Alright guys, just finished watching "As Above, So Below" and I gotta say, it definitely scratched that found footage itch. I'm a sucker for anything claustrophobic, and this movie DELIVERS. The whole premise of exploring the catacombs under Paris is just inherently creepy, and the filmmakers did a solid job of ratcheting up the tension as they went deeper. I think they did really well capturing the feeling of being lost and disoriented in those tunnels. What I appreciated most was the pacing. They didn't rush into the supernatural stuff. It started with the archaeology angle, getting us invested in Scarlett's (the main character) quest for the Philosopher's Stone. Then, little by little, things started getting weird. The whole mirrored room scene was a standout for me – the way they used the limited light and the disorientation was super effective. And that telephone?? I'm getting chills just thinking about it. I love that the movie incorporated real historical and mythological aspects. I think the characters were pretty well-developed, considering it's a found footage horror. Scarlett was driven but not completely reckless, and her team felt like actual people with their own anxieties and baggage. I will say at times the screaming got a little grating, but hey, I can understand you'd be screaming a lot being trapped in that hellhole. Overall, "As Above, So Below" isn't reinventing the wheel, but it's a well-executed and genuinely unsettling horror film. If you're looking for something that'll make you check your basement for secret passages, this is definitely worth a watch. Let me know what you guys thought!
