Okay, "The Other Woman" - Hear Me Out...

Alright everyone, dkim_films here. So, I watched "The Other Woman" the other day, and it's... definitely a movie. Look, I'm not gonna pretend it's high art or anything, but I actually found myself thinking about the sound design a couple of times, specifically during some of the revenge bits. Like, when they're messing with Mark's shampoo and stuff, the little squishing sounds are way more prominent than they need to be, right? It's almost cartoonish, but I think it actually works. It amps up the comedic effect and reinforces the idea that they're basically treating him like a Looney Tunes character. I also think the choice of music is pretty telling - lots of upbeat, poppy stuff that contrasts with the maybe kinda darkish subject matter. Here's my kinda weird theory: I think the reason the movie works at all (and I use that word loosely, LOL) is because they leaned HARD into the over-the-top-ness. Like, they're not trying to be realistic about infidelity or female relationships. Instead, they're going for pure escapist fantasy, and the sound and visual cues all point to that. Think about the scene where they pump him full of estrogen - the music swells, the colors get brighter... It's intentionally ridiculous, and I think that's the point. Also, I know it's a comedy, but I kinda wanted them to go further with the revenge. Maybe something that really messed with his tech, seeing as that's my bag. Imagine them bricking his entire smart home setup, or rigging his security cameras to play embarrassing videos. THAT would've been next level. Someone call me if they ever do a sequel, I got ideas. Anyway, just some random thoughts. What did you guys think? Did anyone else notice the almost too-perfect squishing sounds when they messed with his hygiene products?
