Okay, "Lacombe, Lucien"... Kinda messed up, tbh.
So, I just finished watching "Lacombe, Lucien," and wow, I'm not sure how I feel. It's one of those movies that sticks with you, but like, in a slightly uncomfortable way. I went in totally blind, only knowing it was a WWII flick from France. This Lucien guy... he's just so *blank*. Like, a total nobody who ends up caught between the Resistance and the French guys working for the Nazis. And honestly, he kinda just...drifts? That scene where he accidentally rats out the Resistance fighters because he's trying to impress the Gestapo? Yikes. Talk about a turning point. I kept waiting for him to have some big change of heart, but it kinda never really happens. He just keeps making questionable decisions, mostly because he seems bored or something. The relationship with France (the Jewish girl hiding with her family) was also super weird. You almost feel bad for everyone involved, even though Lucien's actions are awful. It feels so realistic in a way that's unsettling. It doesn't glorify anything, and Lucien isn't some charismatic anti-hero you root for. He's just a dumb kid who gets in way over his head. I was left feeling kinda empty at the end. It's definitely worth watching if you're into war movies that aren't all explosions and heroism, but be prepared to feel a little gross afterward lol. Also, I have dyslexia so sorry for any typos! I definitely need to watch a comedy to cleanse the palate. Any recommendations?
