"The Accountant": Underrated Action Gem or Just Weird?
Okay, so I finally got around to watching "The Accountant" (yeah I know, I'm late to the party). And man, what a strange ride. Ben Affleck, autistic math genius who's also a lethal killing machine? I'm in! I gotta say, the fight choreography was surprisingly good. That scene where he clears that house with the suppressed rifles and the almost balletic movements? Pure gold. You can tell they went for a more realistic, brutal style, which I always appreciate. No wire-fu nonsense here, just good old-fashioned punch-ups and tactical shooting. I'm all about practical effects, and it looked like they tried to keep the CGI to a minimum which is a huge plus in my book. Even though the action scenes were great, the rest of the movie felt kinda...off. The plot was all over the place. You've got the Treasury agent chasing him, the family drama, the corporate intrigue, and Affleck's whole backstory explained in little bits and pieces. It felt like they were trying to cram too much into one movie. And honestly, the romance subplot felt totally forced and unnecessary. Like, why was that even there? I wouldn't have been mad if that was the movie's weakpoint and they cut it out. I was hoping for more John Wick and less... I don't even know what to call it. Still, I dug it, I really did. JK Simmons is always amazing, even if his part felt a little underwritten. All in all, I think it's a solid action movie with some unique elements, but definitely not for everyone. If you're looking for relentless action with a simple plot, this ain't it. But if you're willing to go along with a strange and somewhat convoluted story, you might enjoy it. Has anyone else seen it, and what did you all think? Am I crazy for liking this movie as much as I do?
