Okay, "The Slap" (1974) - Woah, Dude!

So, I just finished watching this French flick, "The Slap" (L'Affront) from '74. Talk about awkward family dinners, am I right? The premise is simple: dad's a chill-ish teacher or something, daughter's a teen rebel about to bolt for some dude. Boom, slap. Title drop! Honestly, the awkwardness was *chef's kiss*. Like, the whole movie is just simmering with this unspoken tension, and then BAM! It explodes. Poor Isabelle Adjani (daughter). I felt so bad for her, even if she was being a bit of a brat. It's that specific kind of teen rebellion where they think they know everything and you're just like, "Honey, you're gonna regret this in, like, a week." And Lino Ventura as the dad? Man, he plays that simmering anger so well. You can see it building, building, building...I just wanted to grab him and yell 'count to ten dude!' before he blew. I kind of wished there was more *reaction* to it though, y'know? Felt a little brushed over. I can't say find a copy immediately, it's not a movie I see myself re-watching often. But it's definitely interesting if you're into intense family dramas with a 70s Euro-vibe. It definitely makes you think about parenting...and maybe how not to react when your kid drops a bomb on you at the dinner table. Def worth a watch if you can find a good copy though. You get the feeling you are watching real stuff happen here. One of those movies!
