Midsommar - Wickerman 2.0 or Something Else?

Alright, folks, moviebuff_marc here, back at it again. Just saw "Midsommar" and I'm...well, I'm a little messed up, not gonna lie. Okay, a lot messed up. This movie is something else. But is it good something else? That's what I'm wrestling with. The setup reminds me a bit of "The Wickerman" (the original, NOT that Nicolas Cage garbage!), right? Outsiders stumble into a seemingly idyllic, isolated community with some seriously weird traditions. But where "Wickerman" has that campy, almost Hammer horror vibe, "Midsommar" goes full-on psychological terror. The flower crowns and sunny skies just amplify the dread, you know? Like, that scene with the Ättestupa? Holy crap. I gasped so loud my wife gave me the look. Dani's journey – from grieving girlfriend to May Queen – is just brutal to watch. Florence Pugh KILLS it. I'm not usually one for horror that lingers so long on the emotional stuff, but this worked for me because it felt real, even amidst all the bizarre rituals and mushroom tea. It wasn't just jump scares; it's that creeping feeling of unease, like you're witnessing something fundamentally wrong with the world. But here's my question: Did it stick the landing? The ending felt...well, like a bit much, maybe? I get the catharsis for Dani, finally finding a twisted sort of belonging. But did the movie fully earn that ending, or did it get lost in its own weirdness along the way? Anybody else feel this way? Or am I just getting too old for this kind of thing?
