Army of the Dead: Zombies with... feelings? Hear me out!

Okay, so I know Army of the Dead isn't exactly 'family movie night' material, haha! But after the kids were in bed, my husband and I watched it, and I have SO many thoughts. Mostly about the zombies. I think there's something way deeper going on than just mindless creatures wanting brains. Like, remember the zombie baby in the cage? And how Zeus seemed genuinely protective of it? That wasn't just a mindless roar, people! It felt... sad. I think they're implying a whole zombie civilization is developing, maybe with a code of honor and even love! It's definitely a theory for now, but I can't shake that feeling. It's almost like A Quiet Place but with, uh, undead Vegas performers. And don't even get me started on Zeus. His connection with the Queen zombie seemed…complex. The way he looked at her, especially after she was…well, you know. It wasn't just rage. Did anyone else see genuine grief? It makes you wonder if they had some kind of zombie monarchy or something. I know, sounds crazy, but that adds an interesting level to the zombie genre that is rarely seen. I am hopeful that if there ever is a sequel, they will explore this further. In a lot of ways, they were more human than some of the actual humans in the movie! Also, the alpha zombies seem to be thinking, planning, and strategizing. When they allowed the helicopter to fly earlier and then attacked the other one, that was definitely planned out. I'm just not convinced the zombies are just going for brains. It seems like they can think and reason. It makes you wonder if the zombie child in the cage was somehow important to them, and that Zeus was trying to protect it. At some point in the sequel, I think they will have to confront the emotional side of the zombies. How we interact with those differences will determine the future, not just the zombies' future but humanity's, also. Okay, maybe I'm overthinking it because it's late and I'm probably hopped up on too much popcorn, but seriously, the Army of the Dead zombies seem different, right? Tell me what you thought!
