Liam Neeson saving the day... again? Marksman thoughts
Okay, so I just finished watching The Marksman. Liam Neeson. Doing his thing. You know, gruff, reluctant hero, forced to protect a kid. It's basically Taken with a Mexican cartel instead of Albanian gangsters, and the stakes are a little lower, I guess? Not that kidnapping isn't horrible, but this felt... smaller somehow? Don't get me wrong, Neeson's got that weathered-old-guy charisma in spades. The scene where he patches up Miguel (Jacob Perez), the kid, was actually pretty touching. But honestly, did anyone else feel like the cartel guys were kinda...dumb? Like, they're chasing this kid across the entire freakin' US, and they STILL manage to get outsmarted by a retired marine with a cattle ranch? I mean, come ON. Was that just me, or was their incompetence a little insulting? Maybe they needed more training? And okay, the whole 'Jim redeems himself for past sins' thing was...fine. Predictable, but fine. But that ending? With the money? Did Jim actually give the money to his stepdaughter? I was kinda dozing off during those last few minutes. Seems like that's an awful lot of money for a kid to have... I mean, wouldn't it be smarter to put the money in a trust fund? Or am I just being a worried parent? Anyway, thoughts? Were the cartel guys intentionally written to be so incompetent? Or am I just being too harsh? And seriously, that cash question is bugging me...
