Belfast: So sweet, BUT...am I the only one?

Okay, so I just saw "Belfast." And yes, it was incredibly sweet and visually stunning, I'll give it that. The black and white cinematography was gorgeous, and Jude Hill is absolutely adorable! The whole 'first crush' storyline with Catherine Walker (I think that was her name lol?) was super cute! But am I the only one who felt it was a little too sentimental? Like, I get it, childhood innocence juxtaposed with the Troubles, powerful stuff. But sometimes it felt like they were hammering that point home a bit too hard. Judi Dench and Ciarán Hinds were brilliant as the grandparents, total scene stealers. The scene where they're dancing? Ugh, my heart melted. But then the violence...it felt almost glossed over somehow? Or maybe it's just because it was through a child's eyes, but I felt like I needed a bit more grit, you know? And alright, quick question for anyone who's seen it: Did anyone else find the whole "High Noon" obsession a little random? I mean, obviously it's a metaphor for standing up for what's right, but it felt a tad shoehorned in, no? I'm just curious if anyone else picked up on that. Overall, I enjoyed it! But I feel the need to ask as a romantic comedy superfan...anyone else have a hard time seeing this as a drama and was desperately hoping for a rom-com where Granny and Grandpa get a spin-off movie?! Anyone? Just me? Okay, fine.
