Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie: Book vs. Screen - Did they nail it?
Okay, fellow Jujutsu Kaisen fans! OliviaCinema here, fresh off a rewatch of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (the movie). As a manga/book reader first, movie watcher second, I always have to weigh in on adaptations. Overall, I thought they did a pretty solid job bringing Yuta's story to life. The animation was gorgeous, especially Rika's curse form – terrifying and tragic all at once. But, of course, there are always things you notice that are different from the source material. One thing that stood out was the pacing. The movie understandably had to condense things, which meant some of the character development, especially for Maki, Toge, and Panda, felt a bit rushed. In the manga, we get more of a sense of their individual personalities before they're thrust into the chaos with Yuta. Did anyone else miss those smaller moments? Or maybe I'm just being nitpicky because I love those dorks, lol. Also, the emotional impact of Gojo and Yuta's relationship felt way more impactful in the books. Is that just me? And speaking of changes, what did everyone think of the way they handled Geto's motivation? It felt a little… simplified in the movie, didn't it? I get they had limited time, but some of the nuance from his backstory felt lost. I definitely preferred the book's version of him. Ultimately, I enjoyed the movie, and it got me hyped for season 2 (diving deep into Gojo and Geto's past!!!). But I'm curious to hear everyone else's thoughts, especially from those who read the manga first. What did you think they nailed, and what did they fumble?
