Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - Okay, I'm kinda obsessed...
Okay, okay, so I just got out of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and I need to talk about the visuals. I wasn't expecting to be blown away by a Dreamworks movie, but seriously, the animation style is gorgeous! It's like they blended some 2D and 3D techniques, giving it this really unique, almost painterly quality. Remember that fight scene with the wolves in the forest? The way they used the stylized smoke and the fast-paced cuts? Gave me chills! Very reminiscent of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but with its own fairytale twist. And the direction really elevated the whole story. I was genuinely invested in Puss's emotional journey. The scene where he has that panic attack from seeing Death (the wolf) for the first time? Gut-wrenching. They actually managed to make a cartoon cat's existential dread palpable. Plus, Goldilocks and the Three Bears were surprisingly awesome villains! I wasn't expecting them to be so...menacing? Goldie's character design was wicked cool too. I did think the humor was a little too kid-focused at times, especially with some of the side characters. Perrito was cute, but sometimes his whole "I love everyone!" thing felt forced? Also, that wishing star's glow was too much! Seriously, my eyes are still hurting. But overall, the movie's creative animation, surprisingly dark themes, and well-developed characters made it a really enjoyable watch! I'm definitely going to rewatch it soon to analyze it more in depth!
