Thor: Love & Thunder - My Gorr Theory & Why It Kinda Works (and Doesn't)

Right, so I've been mulling over Love & Thunder for a while now, and while I intellectually understand the criticisms – the tonal whiplash, the underdeveloped villain, the rushed plot – I can't shake the feeling that there's something interesting buried beneath it all. Specifically, something about Gorr. My theory? Gorr's nihilism, his 'kill all gods' mission, was never truly about the gods themselves, but about challenging some cosmic status quo. Hear me out. Think about it: his motivation stems from the neglectful god Rapu, sure, but that's just the catalyst. Gorr clearly believes the gods are inherently flawed, that their existence allows suffering to persist. But isn't that true for all beings with power? He could have just wanted to destroy all power. Then what if his true aim wasn't the absolute annihilation of the gods, but rather forcing a fundamental shift in how cosmic power is distributed and utilized? The Eternity scene, while visually underwhelming, supports this. By reaching Eternity, Gorr gets one wish. He could have wished for all gods to cease existing-- which would have been in line with his mantra. Instead, he wishes for his daughter to return. Why? Maybe unconsciously, deep down; he wanted someone to choose something different. My thinking is that maybe Gorr wanted to put gods and cosmic beings of power on notice. Thor becomes a changed man because of Gorr's actions, and he decides to put his child, Love, above all else. So, maybe Gorr was just trying to make a statement! The execution was a mess, of course. Bale's performance was brilliant, but he was ultimately wasted on a character given so little depth. The film needed more introspection from Gorr, more ambiguity in his motivations beyond simple vengeance. However, if we view Gorr as a flawed, even hypocritical, revolutionary seeking a more equitable cosmic order, the film becomes a lot more compelling. Anyway, just a thought, and I'm sure I'm completely wrong. What does everyone else think?
