Bullet Train: More Style Than Substance, But Still Fun?

Okay, so I just got out of Bullet Train, and my brain is still trying to process everything I just saw. Look, I went in expecting a hyper-stylized action flick, and it DELIVERED on that front. The visuals were slick, the fight choreography was insane (that briefcase bit was genuinely awesome), and the whole 'confined space' setting gave it a cool claustrophobic vibe. Plus, Brad Pitt's just having a blast as Ladybug, which is infectious. But... as a sci-fi + world-building guy, I gotta admit I was a bit underwhelmed overall. The plot felt kinda convoluted at times, and honestly, I didn't really connect with most of the characters. While I appreciate the attempt to give everyone a quirky backstory, it ended up feeling kinda forced, almost like Tarantino-lite. Lemon and Tangerine (Brian Tyree Henry and Aaron Taylor-Johnson) were hilarious, though! Their brotherly dynamic and the whole Thomas the Tank Engine thing was definitely a highlight. My main issue is that the movie sets up this cool premise – assassins unknowingly colliding on a high-speed train – but doesn't really do anything particularly innovative. It's a lot of flash and bang, but not a lot of substance beneath the surface. I kept hoping there'd be some kind of hidden layer or twist related to why so many assassins happened to be on that train at the same time (maybe a bigger conspiracy or a secret society orchestrating things?), but nope, just a series of unfortunate coincidences, really. Ultimately, I had a good time. It's a fun, mindless action movie perfect for a Friday night. But don't go in expecting any serious brain-bending sci-fi or deep world-building. It's more style over substance. Still worth a watch if you like over-the-top violence and Brad Pitt being Brad Pitt, though. What were your thoughts? Did anyone else think the ending was a little...much?
