Black Adam: The Score Was The Real Power Play
Alright soundtrack nerds, Hughes Reviews back at it again. So, Black Adam... yeah, the movie. Honestly, I walked out feeling pretty "meh" about the whole thing. The plot was kinda predictable, the dialogue was... well, it existed. But MAN, Lorne Balfe really brought his A-game. I mean, the score was seriously carrying this movie on its back like Black Adam carrying a bus (you know, like in the trailers). Specifically, the main theme? Absolute banger. That blend of the epic orchestral stuff with the Middle Eastern influences? Chef's kiss. Every time Black Adam was just decimating fools, that theme was just pumping. It actually made those scenes way more impactful than they probably deserved to be. The quieter moments with Adrianna and Amon got some nice, more intimate themes too, which was a welcome change of pace. Honestly, I might just rewatch the action bits on mute and just blast the soundtrack. Is that weird? Maybe. Do I care? Nope. There's definitely a Hans Zimmer influence in Balfe's work (they've collaborated a ton), but he's really coming into his own. My only real complaint? I wish they'd explored some of the Egyptian instrumentation even further. Imagine some more duduk or some actual traditional chants woven in there! That would've been next level amazing. But overall, I’m throwing this score into my regular rotation. So yeah, while the movie itself was kinda forgettable, the score is definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of that big, bombastic superhero music. What did you guys think? Anyone else obsessed with the main theme or am I just losing it? Let me know in the comments!
