Black Adam: So... What Was The Point?
Okay, so I finally got around to watching Black Adam. I know, I'm late to the party. But honestly, I was working my way up to it? Heard mixed things. Anyway, I settled in with my usual late-night snacks (Doritos and a questionable amount of Mountain Dew, don't judge) and hit play. And... I'm not really sure what I just watched. Like, Dwayne Johnson is always charismatic, right? He BROUGHT it. But the whole movie felt... disjointed? There were explosions, and superpowers, and that Hawkman dude was kinda cool (Aldis Hodge, good casting). But I didn't really CARE. The kid was annoying, the plot was kinda predictable, and Black Adam himself... was he a hero? An anti-hero? Just angry? I couldn't quite figure it out. That scene where he just vaporizes that entire group of soldiers? Whoa. Okay then. And the Justice Society showing up felt kinda shoehorned in? Like DC was just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. Dr. Fate was cool, Pierce Brosnan brought some gravitas. But overall? Mehhh. I was hoping for something darker, something more morally ambiguous. Black Adam felt like it wanted to be edgy but chickened out at the last minute. Maybe it's just me, but I think DC needs to figure out what they want these movies to BE. Are we going for fun, quippy superhero romps? Or gritty, complex stories? Black Adam tried both and ended up doing neither particularly well. I'm giving it a solid 'meh'. Now, what to watch next... any suggestions? (besides Shazam, already saw it!)
