Uncharted Score: Is Roque Baños Underrated or Just...There?

Alright fellow soundtrack junkies, Hughesreviews here, ready to dive (or should I say, parachute?) into "Uncharted". Look, the movie itself? Eh, it was alright. A fun popcorn flick, nothing groundbreaking. But you KNOW I'm here for the score, folks. Roque Baños is a composer I've always found interesting. He's done some solid work – "Evil Dead" (2013) anyone? – but I felt his "Uncharted" score... well, it didn't quite reach its potential, especially given the source material had so much lore to pull from. Maybe the director was Unknown? (kidding) My theory is this: did the studio hold Baños back? There were moments – like during the treasure reveals or the final pirate ship showdown – where the music hinted at something grand, something epic. But they were fleeting! It felt like he was constantly being reigned in, forced to keep things generic adventure-y instead of letting the score soar and truly reflect Nathan Drake's character. I'm wondering if some of the better thematic material ended up on the cutting room floor. I mean, come on! The story has so much potential for bombastic themes and evocative melodies. I needed something more along the lines of Greg Edmonson's "Uncharted" game scores. That stuff is iconic! Don't get me wrong, Baños isn't bad, but his score feels more like a supporting player than a driving force. Which is such a shame, because I think with a little more freedom, he could have delivered something truly special. Or maybe (just maybe) the score was a symptom of the movie itself – a bit...safe. What do you guys think? Am I being too harsh? Did anyone else feel like the "Uncharted" score could have been so much more, or am I just being a soundtrack snob?
