Okay, "The Menu" Was Seriously Messed Up (But I Liked It?)

So I finally saw "The Menu," and wow. Just…wow. I went in knowing basically nothing except that everyone was talking about it, and honestly, I'm glad I did. The suspense was killer! The whole concept of this hyper-exclusive dining experience turning into... well, that, was just brilliantly executed. I'm still thinking about Anya Taylor-Joy's character, Margot. She was the perfect audience surrogate, the grounded one amidst all the pretentious foodie nonsense. Plus, her little rebellion at the end with the cheeseburger? YES. I cheered out loud, I'm not even ashamed. Ralph Fiennes as Chef Slowik was terrifyingly captivating. The way he commanded the screen with just a look... chilling! It's not just that he was a 'bad guy', but you kind of understood why he was doing what he was doing, even if you obviously didn't agree. The scene where he reveals the 'inspiration' behind each course? So disturbing, but also so well-written and performed. I especially loved the bread plate scene, hilarious and pointed at the same time. You know what I mean? It really makes you think, what's really worth the money? Is it the experience, or does it just show the people who have it are empty? I will say, some parts felt a little on-the-nose, particularly with the social commentary. Like, we get it, rich people are often out of touch! But the acting and the sheer tension kept me hooked regardless. It's not a book adaptation, which is my usual jam, but it definitely left me feeling...unsettled in a good way. Definitely worth a watch if you're into dark comedies that make you question everything (and maybe crave a good, simple cheeseburger). One tiny gripe - what exactly was going on with the sous chef and the wife? It wasn't fully explained, and there was so much going on anyway, that I wasn't sure if it was like a side plot or a red herring. Maybe I'll have to rewatch to get it.
