Sonic 2: Did anyone else clock the obvious costume inspo?

Okay, so I just saw Sonic 2 (late to the party, I know!). It was... well, it was a kids' movie, right? But costume-wise, I couldn't help but notice some distinct callbacks, especially with Robotnik. Like, Jim Carrey's look in the final battle sequence? The red suit, the goggles... it screamed classic villain, but specifically, I got serious Dr. Doom vibes? Like, a slightly campier, more cartoonish Dr. Doom, but still! And the stache was giving major handlebar vibes. I wonder if that was intentional or just a coincidence? And then there's Knuckles. Okay, he's literally an echidna, so his design is pretty set in stone, BUT the way they styled him, the aggressive jewelry, even the way he moved... reminded me a little bit of Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy. Obviously not the same character at all, but that fierce warrior vibe, played straight and not for laughs? I totally saw it. Maybe it's just me projecting my Marvel obsession, but I feel like the costume designers were deliberately borrowing from established archetypes to quickly establish these characters on screen. What do you guys think? Am I reaching? One small things that's just bugging me, the human's costumes were kind of bland. Like they could have leaned into some of the 90's nostalgia more. But I guess they didn't want to overdo it. Overall I give the film a solid B. The visuals were good and the action was fun, just wish they gave the humans a little more style.
