The Black Phone: More Chills Than I Expected!

Okay, so I finally got around to watching "The Black Phone" and wow, it was definitely more intense than I anticipated! I went in expecting a pretty standard thriller, but it had this creepy, almost supernatural vibe that really got under my skin. The whole premise of a disconnected phone ringing in a basement where a kid is being held captive is just inherently disturbing, right? I don't know who the director is, But props to them for creating such a palpable sense of dread. I thought Ethan Hawke was absolutely terrifying as The Grabber. He managed to be both unsettlingly charming and utterly menacing – a really tricky balance to pull off. And I have to say, young Mason Thames as Finney was fantastic. He really conveyed that sense of vulnerability and growing resilience perfectly - you're just rooting for him the entire time. I was seriously on the edge of my seat during the final act, especially with those phone calls coming in from the other victims! So smart and creative! I'm not usually one for horror that relies heavily on jump scares, and thankfully, "The Black Phone" mostly avoids that. It's more about the slow burn of suspense and the psychological torment. Finney's sister, Gwen, and her psychic dreams added another layer to the story that I found really interesting, even if it was a little bit on the nose. She's a great character, too. I think I should have watched with friends, though, it was a bit scary to watch alone at night haha. Overall, I found it to be a really effective and well-crafted thriller. It’s not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but if you're looking for something suspenseful with a touch of the supernatural, I'd definitely recommend giving it a watch. Let me know what you guys thought!
