Morbius: A Missed Opportunity (And My Wild Theory)
Okay, so I finally caved and watched Morbius. Look, I'm not gonna lie, the pacing felt kinda clunky in spots, like they cut out a ton of character development to get to the action. The whole Jekyll and Hyde thing with the transformation was cool visually, but the emotional weight just wasn't there, you know? Also, who directed this thing? 'Unknown'?! That explains a lot, lol. Anyway, I have a weird theory brewing, and I need to get it off my chest. What if Milo wasn't really evil? Hear me out. There's that scene where he's dancing shirtless in his apartment, right after he first 'Morbs' out. He seems genuinely happy, almost innocent in his embrace of the power. Then, later, he's all dark and brooding, committing murders. My theory is that the serum wasn't stable. Think about it – Morbius is constantly fighting the bloodlust, experimenting, trying to control it. What if Milo didn't have that control, and the serum essentially drove him insane through rapid mood swings? That would make his actions less about pure evil and more about a tragic side effect of a desperate cure gone wrong. Maybe the director cut all the scenes that explained this? It explains why Morbius is so determined to stop him, even though they were friends. It's not just about stopping a monster; it's about saving someone he cares about who's been warped by the very thing he created. The 'Morbing Time' meme-factor aside, there's a genuinely tragic story buried in there somewhere, and I think that's what they were trying to get at. It just... didn't quite land. Maybe a director's cut could fix it? I'm not saying it would elevate the movie to a 'masterpiece', but it would give Milo's character some much-needed depth and make the whole conflict a lot more compelling. This movie felt like it was missing a vital ingredient, and I think it was a better understanding of the serum's effects on someone who wasn't as mentally prepared as Morbius. Just a thought!
