Nope: Not What I Expected (But Still Good?)
Okay, so I just saw Nope and, wow, Jordan Peele really knows how to mess with my expectations. Going in, I kinda thought it would be a more straightforward alien invasion flick, but it's... not. It's so much more about spectacle, and the danger of trying to tame the untamable. Like, that whole Gordy's Home flashback? Absolutely terrifying and brilliant. It really set the stage for understanding OJ's trauma and why he's so… reserved. I loved Keke Palmer as Emerald. She brought so much energy and humor to what could have been a really grim movie. And the cinematography? Gorgeous. That shot of the creature silhouetted against the clouds? Chills. My only real issue is... did anyone else feel like the ending was a little rushed? I get that they needed a resolution, but it felt a bit… convenient? Maybe I need to watch it again. I'm still processing everything, but I think it's a movie you really need to unpack. It's definitely not a jump-scare-fest, but more of a slow-burn, psychological thriller with sci-fi elements. What were your guys' thoughts? Did you love it? Hate it? Somewhere in between? Also, side note: I’m slightly embarrassed to admit it took me a while to fully get the UFO, uh, thing’s true form. I was so focused on traditional spaceship stuff, haha. Anyone else feel that way?
