Okay, "Fall" wasn't a rom-com, but WAS it?
So, I just watched "Fall" (because, let's be honest, the trailer was terrifyingly intriguing), and I have a theory that's probably insane. Hear me out: was this movie secretly a super messed up rom-com? I know, I know, two girls stranded on a tower is hardly "Meet Cute" material. But THINK about it. Becky is clearly hung up on her dead husband, Dan. Hunter, the adventurous bestie, is pushing her to move on, even kinda-sorta implying that she is the partner Becky needs now. Throughout the movie, Hunter literally keeps Becky alive, cheers her up, and forces her to confront her grief. And the ending? Becky climbs down with Dan's proposal ring, FINALLY letting go. It's like a REALLY twisted, trauma-bonded love story where the "will they/won't they" is replaced with "will they survive?" Maybe the vultures represent all the bad relationship advice Becky got before Hunter swooped in (pun intended!). I know I'm reaching, but honestly, the intensity of their friendship felt strangely romantic, especially when compared with flashbacks to Dan. He was kinda boring tbh. I mean, if my best friend helped me conquer my grief and a 2,000-foot tower, I'd be questioning my sexuality, lol. Okay, maybe not, but you get my point! Anyways, maybe I just need more sleep..or maybe I'm onto something. What do you guys think? Am I completely off my rocker, or is there a weird subtext to this survival thriller? Also, sidenote - anyone else find the deepfakes a little...off? They almost took me out of the movie entirely.
