Colonel Tom Parker... the REAL Monster in Elvis (2022)? Hear me out...
Okay, so I just finished watching 'Elvis' (finally, I know I'm late!) and I was completely riveted. Austin Butler KILLED it, no doubt. But something's been bugging me. Everyone talks about Elvis's downfall, the drugs, the excess... but what if Colonel Tom Parker was the real horror show all along? I mean, this isn't a jump-scare kinda horror, but that slow-burn, psychological kind that messes with your head. Think about it -- Parker saw Elvis as a product, a cash cow, not a person. He basically imprisoned him in that gilded cage. Like, the way Parker constantly manipulated Elvis, keeping him touring and under his thumb, even when it was clearly destroying him... that's straight-up villain behavior. Remember that scene where Elvis is clearly exhausted, practically begging to break free from the Vegas residency? And Parker just brushes it off, talking about the money? Pure evil! It's not supernatural, but it IS terrifying how someone can completely control another person's life for personal gain. He basically sucked the life out of Elvis for his own benefit. And honestly, Baz Luhrmann does a pretty good job of emphasizing that. The way Parker's character is framed sometimes -- lurking in the shadows, always watching -- it gives off serious 'horror movie monster' vibes. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I think the movie subtly suggests that Parker was a parasitic entity, feeding off Elvis's talent and eventually contributing to his demise. What do you guys think? Was Parker just a savvy businessman, or something far more sinister? This movie really gave me something to think about even if it was a biittt messy at times to grasp the big picture.
