Del Toro's Pinocchio: Did the Ending WORK For Anyone Else?

Okay, so I finally saw Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio and visually, it's absolutely STUNNING. The stop-motion is insane, some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. The music was haunting, and I really dug the darker take on a classic story. Especailly liked how they made the Fascist Italy setting integral to the plot, and didn't just use it as a backdrop. But... the ending. I'm just not sure it landed for me. I get the whole 'life is precious because it's finite' thing, and Pinocchio finally accepting that, but the pacing felt off in those final few scenes. We rush through Candelwick's fate (which, admittedly, I saw coming), then a time jump happens so fast it felt jarring, and then boom, Gepetto is old and Pinocchio makes his choice. I almost wish they'd have explored that decision-making moment a little more. Did anyone else feel that way? Maybe I was just expecting something different. I loved the themes about fatherhood and loss, and honestly I was choked up, but the way it was executed in the end... hmm. Did anyone get enough time to connect to Pinnochio's brothers? It felt like they were just there for the final moment and there wasn't enough time for them to grow. Any thoughts on how they could have tightened it up or made it more impactful? Don't get me wrong, overall I think it's a great film and definitely worth watching (especially for the animation alone), but I wanted to see if I was crazy for feeling like the last 15 minutes needed a little bit more love in the edit bay. Maybe a bit too much crammed in there? I dunno, what did you all think?
