"The Fabelmans: Pretty Good, But Not Amazing"
Okay, so I finally saw "The Fabelmans". Heard a lot of buzz about it, especially how "personal" it was. It was a decent watch, I won't lie. The kid playing young Sammy was really good, especially when he's making those home movies. You totally buy that he's obsessed with filmmaking. That whole scene where he's filming the toy train crash? Totally captivating. And like, the high school stuff with the anti-semitism... intense, but handled well. I felt for the guy. But it wasn't like, a blow-me-away kind of movie, you know? Maybe it's because I don't know anything about the director (I heard it was based on his life?), but some of the drama felt a little... forced? Like the mom's affair, I get it, adds to the tension and all, but it felt kinda predictable? And the resolution felt a little too neat and tidy. It wrapped up nicely, but I was hoping for something with more... bite, I guess? Overall, I'd say it's worth a watch if you're into coming-of-age stories or are interested in filmmaking itself. Definitely has some well-crafted scenes and good performances. The cinematography was also great. But don't go in expecting something earth-shattering. Good entertainment, but not perfect! Anyone else feel the same way, or am I totally off base here?
