Okay, 'The Woman King' wasn't a rom-com, BUT...

Alright, so I know this isn't my usual fare. No meet-cutes, no grand gestures, no will-they-won't-they stressing me out 'til the credits roll. I went to see 'The Woman King' because everyone was talking about it, and honestly? I was blown away. Like, Viols Davis? Total badass. I wasn't expecting to be so emotionally invested in, you know, WARRIORS. But the Agojie? Incredible. Their dedication, their strength, the way they looked out for each other...it was kind of beautiful in its own way, even if it was a very different kind of beautiful than, say, 'When Harry Met Sally.' I'm genuinely curious how other people felt about the historical context. I'm not a history buff (rom-coms are my history!), so I went in pretty blind. I know there's been discussion about the Dahomey's involvement in the slave trade, and I'm interested in how the film addressed that (or didn't address it adequately, depending on your perspective). Did anyone else feel like the movie kinda glossed over that? Or am I missing something? Also, and maybe this is just the romantic in me, but did anyone else pick up on a hint of something between Nanisca and Izogie? I know the movie was primarily focused on the sisterhood and the fight for freedom, but there were a couple of moments where I thought maybe, just maybe, there was something more there. Or am I just seeing ships where they don't exist? (It wouldn't be the first time, LOL.) Anyway, thoughts? Overall, I really loved it, but I definitely have some lingering questions, and would love to hear other peoples takes.
