Samaritan: Old Superhero Trope, But Still Fun?
Alright guys, TylerWatches here with another 'out-of-my-depth' dive into a movie I probably should've seen ages ago. This time it's "Samaritan." So, Sly Stallone as an old retired superhero who might be living next door to a kid who's obsessed with him? Yeah, I'm kinda on board. It's a pretty well-worn trope, the 'washed up hero has to save the day one last time' thing. I didn't realize it was a thing Stallone did a LOT, lol. The kid, Sam, was actually pretty good. He wasn't annoying, which is like, a huge win when you're dealing with a kid actor. And Pilou Asbæk as the villain, Cyrus, was definitely giving off some serious Joker vibes. Maybe a little too much? The whole 'society is broken, gotta burn it down' motivation felt a bit generic, even for a superhero-adjacent flick. Like, we've seen that a million times. The ending with the twist...I kinda saw it coming, tbh. Maybe I'm spending too much time watching these sorts of movies now. Honestly, the action scenes were decent. Not groundbreaking, but solid enough. I liked the practical effects, even if the CGI felt a little dated in places. Overall, "Samaritan" isn't gonna win any awards for originality, but it's a perfectly watchable superhero flick. Like, popcorn movie stuff, you know? So, yeah, would I recommend it? Sure. If you're looking for something to switch your brain off too for a few hours. 6/10. What'd you all think? Was I the only one who figured out the twist way before the end?
