"Day Shift": Jamie Foxx & Snappy Action, But Could've Been Tighter
Okay, so I finally got around to watching Day Shift. Honestly, went in with pretty low expectations, but I ended up having a decent time. Jamie Foxx is always entertaining, and the action sequences are genuinely inventive. That apartment raid scene early on? Some seriously cool vampire contortionist stuff. I loved how they fully leaned into the absurdity of it all. Dave Franco was surprisingly good too – his neurotic, terrified character was a fun contrast to Foxx's badass hunter. Snoop Dogg is...Snoop Dogg, which is always a plus in my book. My biggest gripe? Pacing. It felt like they threw in a bunch of cool ideas, but didn't quite know how to connect them all seamlessly. The story meanders a bit in the middle, and some of the exposition dumps felt clunky. Like, we get it, vampires are organized! No need to hit us over the head with it. And that villain reveal? Predictable, but not in a satisfying way. More like a 'oh, okay, moving on' type of predictable. Structurally, it felt like it could have used another pass in the edit bay. Shorten some of the dialogue, tighten up that middle section, and give the ending some extra punch. I feel like they could've shaved off 15-20 minutes and made it a much more streamlined, impactful movie. Still, for a mindless action flick with some genuinely creative moments, it's worth a watch. Just don't expect anything groundbreaking. Did anyone else think the lore was a little all over the place? Overall, I'd give it a solid 6.5/10. Fun, but definitely could've been executed with a bit more precision. The action and Jamie Foxx's performance are the main selling points here, so if you like either of those, you'll probably enjoy it. Defenitely need to see more of that prius, maybe in day shift 2.
