"The Pale Blue Eye" - Did anyone else find that ending kinda...meh?

Alright folks, scottscreens here. Just finished "The Pale Blue Eye" and I'm... conflicted. Christian Bale's Landor was great, obviously. Reminded me a bit of "Batman Begins" actually, that gruff, haunted thing he does, you know? And Harry Melling as young Edgar Allan Poe? Solid casting. He nailed that intense, almost unsettling vibe. He was almost enough to make me quote, "Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary..." BUT I digress. The whole mystery was intriguing enough, I'll give it that. Loved the gothic atmosphere, the whole West Point setting felt really authentic. But the reveal? The whole Louisa thing? I don't know, it felt a bit... forced? Maybe I missed something, but it didn't quite land for me like it should have. Like, was it supposed to be as 'out there' as it was? I wasn't sure. It's like they tried too hard to give us a "Shutter Island" type twist, but forgot that film's emotional core. And speaking of emotional core, the ending with Poe reading Landor's letter? It was...fine? But did it really pay off everything that came before? I appreciate the attempt at a poignant moment, but it felt more like, "The horror...the horror!" (Apocalypse Now) but less impactful. It was just...flat. I just feel like there was the potential for so much more with that character and story. Did anyone else feel this way, or am I just being too critical? Maybe I'll hafta watch it again to be sure, but first impressions, I'm just not fully sold. What did you guys 'see' in the movie? I'm open to different interpretations, lemme know!
