"Spiderhead" - Worth the Watch or Nah?
Alright, so I just got around to watching "Spiderhead" on Netflix and I'm kinda torn. Conceptually, it was pretty cool – prisoners experimenting with mood-altering drugs in this swanky, isolated facility? Definitely had some potential for some messed-up situations and maybe even some awesome practical effects if they leaned into the chaos. But... did they really deliver? I'm not so sure. I mean, Chris Hemsworth was entertaining as Abnesti, the 'pharmaceutical genius,' but sometimes it felt a little too over-the-top. I kept waiting for that moment where he really went bonkers, but it kinda fizzled. And while Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett were solid, I wasn't totally invested in their characters' backstories or their little romance. It all felt kinda...surface level? My biggest question is, did anyone else feel like they missed a trick with the action? Like, with those drugs messing with people's emotions, I was expecting some crazy brawls or some creative escapes using the environment. The whole facility was kinda futuristic, there could have been some insane stunt work utilized there. But it seemed like they mostly just talked in that sterile lab. So, what do you guys think? Was I expecting too much? Did anyone else feel like they could have cranked up the intensity and the practical effects to make it a truly memorable sci-fi thriller? Or am I just being a grumpy action movie guy?
