Sea Beast - Okay, I'm Officially An Animated Movie Convert (Kinda)
Okay, so I caught "The Sea Beast" last night, mostly because I ran out of actual real movies to watch at 2 AM. Animated? Ugh, usually not my thing, but I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised, shocked even. The animation style was gorgeous, especially those sea beast designs. Seriously, some of those monsters were EPIC! I'm a sucker for world-building, and they nailed the whole 'monster hunter' vibe, felt lived in, y'know? But here's my question... Am I the only one who thought Maisie, as kickass as she was, felt a little too modern? Like her dialogue and some of her reactions occasionally took me out of the moment. Don't get me wrong, I loved her arc and how she challenged the whole 'hunting monsters is good' narrative they were pushing, but sometimes it felt a bit...forced? And Red, holy moly, that was one scary crab monster, or whatever it was. I actually jumped a couple of times, which is saying something for a guy who watches horror movies back to back. So, what did you guys think? Was Maisie too much of a modern kid in an old-timey setting, or did it work for you? And more importantly, did anyone else secretly want to hug Red or was that just me being sleep deprived?
