George Miller's 'Three Thousand Years' - Worth a Genie Wish?

Alright, fellow movie nerds, moviebuff_marc here. Just saw "Three Thousand Years of Longing" and I'm kinda...whelmed? I'm a sucker for anything that smacks of mythology, and Idris Elba as a djinn? Sold! But... I walked out feeling like I'd seen a gorgeous screensaver for two hours. Visually, it's STUNNING. Think Terry Gilliam meets Arabian Nights, but with a budget. Tilda Swinton is, naturally, brilliant as Alithea. But the story... it felt kinda meandering, right? The djinn's tales were interesting, don't get me wrong, but did they really tie together into something emotionally resonant? I kept waiting for that big "A-HA!" moment that never quite landed. Maybe I'm just too used to Miller slamming me with feels in "Mad Max: Fury Road." Anyone else get a bit of a 'The Fall' (Tarsem Singh!) vibe mixed with a dash of 'Wings of Desire'? I mean, the djinn's longing for connection is kinda similar to those angels, no? But 'Wings of Desire' just hit harder, y'know? Maybe it's the Wim Wenders B&W aesthetic. Anyway, am I missing something here? Did anyone else wish the movie had a little more...oomph? One thing that really bugged me was the ending. It seemed kinda rushed, didn't it? Like they had a page limit or something. Seriously, what were Alithea's REAL motivations? And did the Djinn actually get anything out of the deal besides some 21st-century companionship? Talk to me! What did you guys think? Is it just me needing to re-watch some classic fantasy flicks to cleanse my palate?
