Ticket to Paradise: Bali is beautiful, but the plot...thoughts?
Okay, so I just got back from seeing "Ticket to Paradise." And, like, visually? Bali looked AMAZING. I could practically feel the humidity through the screen. The drone shots of the rice paddies and the ocean... seriously stunning. I'm a sci-fi guy primarily (world-building is my LIFE), but I can appreciate good set design and natural beauty. The costumes were amazing too. But the plot... ugh. Julia Roberts and George Clooney have chemistry, I'll give them that. The dolphin scene was genuinely funny. But this whole 'stop their daughter from making the same mistake' thing felt so predictable and honestly kinda forced? Like, Lily (their daughter) is a grown woman! And David and Georgia have been divorced for, what, decades? Why do they suddenly care so much, besides wanting to be right? Maybe it's because I'm used to more complex narratives, but this felt kind of shallow, ya know? What did you guys think? Was I just expecting too much depth from a rom-com, or did anyone else feel like the gorgeous scenery was carrying a pretty weak story? I even started wondering about the social structure of Bali and the daughter, Lily marrying someone from the seaweed farming village. Like, that's a culture clash! I kinda hoped the movie would get into that, but nah. I really felt let down. Maybe I watched too much Dune Part 2 previews LOL Am I missing something? Was there more subtext than I picked up on? Let me know your thoughts, cuz honestly, I'm feeling conflicted. Beautiful locations get a 10/10, story maybe a 5/10?
