The Super Mario Bros. Movie: Brian Tyler really delivered!
Alright everyone, just got back from seeing The Super Mario Bros. Movie! Look, I went in skeptical, I'm not gonna lie. Video game movies have burned me before, but I gotta say, I had a blast. And a huge part of that was Brian Tyler's score. Seriously, the guy nailed it. He weaves in iconic Nintendo themes so seamlessly, it's not just pure nostalgia bait (though there's definitely some of that, and I ain't complaining!). It actually works within the dramatic context. Specifically, the scene where Mario's training with Donkey Kong to take on Bowser? The way Tyler blends the Mario theme with a more intense orchestral setting... chills, man. Pure chills. And Jack Black? Totally killed it as Bowser. His piano ballad was both hilarious and genuinely kinda moving? Didn't see that coming. I was half expecting it to be some throwaway gag, but it was brilliantly executed and Tyler's arrangement of it really sold the character's… vulnerability? (if you can call it that, haha). The movie isn't perfect, mind you. The plot's pretty straightforward, and some of the dialogue is a little clunky. But the visuals are stunning, the voice acting is surprisingly good (Seth Rogen as DK? Actually worked!), and the MUSIC... the music is just fantastic. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen for the sound alone, in my opinion. I might even grab the soundtrack when it's out. Anyone else see it? What were your thoughts on the score?
