Okay, Super Mario Bros. Movie...Thoughts on the Visuals?

Hey everyone! Sarah here, cinephile_sarah, still processing that Super Mario Bros. Movie. Look, I went in expecting...not a ton, honestly. But visually? I was actually pretty impressed in places. I'm curious what everyone else thought about the world-building and cinematography. Like, the Mushroom Kingdom was obviously super saturated and stylized, which makes sense, but I thought they actually pulled off the 'hyperreal' look effectively. The opening sequence in Brooklyn was pretty standard fare, but then when they get transported? That shift in color palette and the sense of scale they conveyed in the Dark Lands especially? Chef's kiss. I'm particularly thinking of the establishing shot of Bowser's fortress, like, wowza! But what I'm really wondering is about the action sequences. I felt like some of them were a liiiiittle chaotic. The Rainbow Road scene was fun, sure, but did anyone else find the camera work a bit too frantic? Like, I get that they were trying to convey speed and chaos, but sometimes I felt like I was losing track of what was actually happening. Did anyone else feel that way or was I just having a bad day? Also, how did you feel about the character design choices? Toad's huge eyes still haunt my dreams, lol. Let me know your thoughts!
