Okay, Okay, Gotta Talk About the Mario Movie!
Alright, flick fanatics! Saw the Super Mario Bros. Movie finally and...well, I've got THOUGHTS. First off, gotta say, Jack Black as Bowser? "Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, PEACHES!" Dude nailed it. Seriously, the musical number alone is worth the price of admission. I was cracking UP. Also, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad was a surprisingly awesome choice. He brought the perfect level of anxious energy to the little guy. Visually, the movie's stunning. The Mushroom Kingdom looked exactly how I imagined it in my head as a kid. And the Rainbow Road sequence? Forget about it! My inner child was screaming. My only minor gripe? I thought Chris Pratt as Mario was…fine. Not bad, just…there. He didn't ruin it, but he didn't exactly elevate it either. Maybe I'm just too used to Charles Martinet's voice. There were a couple of moments where it felt a bit too reliant on nostalgia, just throwing in references for the sake of references if you know what I mean? Like, "Oh hey, it's that thing from the game!", but overall, it's a fun ride. And the post-credits scene? "Wah-hoo!" I think we all know what that means. So, what'd you guys think? Did the movie teleport you back to the NES era, or did it leave you feeling like you just fell down a bottomless pit? Let's discuss! And remember, 'It's-a me, Mario!' but also, opinions, people! Let me know what you thought was awesome!
