Across the Spider-Verse: Am I the only one who thought it was… fine?

Okay, so I finally caved and saw Across the Spider-Verse. Everyone's been raving about it for months, calling it the best animated movie ever, blah blah blah. Maybe I'm just dead inside, but I honestly wasn't blown away. Visually, yeah, it's stunning. The different art styles clashing and merging were genuinely impressive, I'll give it that. But was the story that amazing? Honestly, not really. Felt like a lot of setup for the next one, which is, you know, kind of annoying. Like, are we just supposed to be perpetually hyped with no real payoff? And can we TALK about Miguel O'Hara? All the kids online are thirsting after him, but I found him to be a completely unlikable, self-righteous jerk. Sure, he's been through some stuff, but that doesn't excuse being a control freak who steamrolls over everyone else. And Miles? I get he's supposed to be the 'heart' of the story, but his whole 'I'm special and can break the rules' thing got old fast. It felt less like a character arc and more like him just being stubborn and reckless. Like, the bagel place scene, I was confused (and hungry): bagel with the works, bagel with the hole, the bagel of destiny? What was that even? A metaphor? A joke? Did anyone find this funny? Maybe it's because I'm getting old or something, but all the hyper-stylization and meta-commentary felt a little… much. Felt exhausting, when all I wanted was a solid Spider-Man story. I'm not saying it's bad, just… massively overhyped? Anyone else feel the same, or am I destined to be the Spider-Grinch this holiday season?
