Quantumania: Okay, I have thoughts.

Right, so I just saw Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and honestly, I'm struggling to process. On one hand, the visuals were undeniably impressive. The Quantum Realm was exactly the kind of bizarre, almost Lovecraftian landscape I was hoping for. The scale of it all – that city sprawled across… well, wherever it was – they really nailed the 'otherworldliness'. But… and this is a big but, did anyone else feel like it was just a visually stunning mess? The plot felt so convoluted at times it was like they threw every sci-fi trope they could think of at the wall and hoped something would stick. Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, was compelling – a genuinely menacing presence. You could feel the weight of his power, even when he was just standing there. But, and maybe this is just me, I felt like they didn't quite earn his villain status. We get glimpses of his past, of the multiverse, but it all felt rushed, almost like exposition dumps. I really wanted a deeper dive into what made him Kang, the conqueror. They needed to give us more to chew on there. And speaking of chewing, MODOK... seriously? Corey Stoll's performance was... memorable, I guess? But that entire subplot felt jarringly out of place tonally. Cassie Lang's arc felt a little underserved, if I'm honest. I appreciate the effort to show her developing into her own hero, but the execution felt a bit clumsy. And as much as I love Paul Rudd, Scott Lang felt almost sidelined in his own movie. It was like they were more interested in setting up the next big multiverse event than telling a coherent, character-driven story. The interactions between the OG Ant-Man crew felt muted, too. I wanted more Hank and Janet history! Overall, it's a visually arresting but narratively chaotic experience. There are moments of brilliance, especially Majors' performance, but the film ultimately buckles under the weight of its own ambition. Not terrible, but definitely the weakest of the Ant-Man trilogy, and concerning as a springboard into the next phases of the MCU. Needs more focus, less... fluff.
