Flash...point? More like Flash...meh. (A GenX Rant)
Okay, so I finally saw 'The Flash' and, yeah, I'm underwhelmed. They were trying SO hard to tap into that 'Back to the Future' vibe, and it kinda landed... but also kinda didn't? The whole 'messed up timeline' thing has been done to death, and while Keaton's Batman was undeniably cool (seriously, seeing the suit again gave me chills!), it felt more like nostalgia bait than organic storytelling. Like, remember when they brought back Connery for that Bond flick 'Never Say Never Again'? Kinda that same feeling - cool to see, but… off. They tried to throw in a 'Dark Knight Returns' grit, but it felt forced. The CGI…oof. I get it, superhero movies are effects-heavy, but some of those early Flash running scenes looked straight out of a PS2 game. And that baby sequence everyone talked about? Uncanny Valley city, population: me. Plus, General Zod again? Really? Can we please retire that villain? It's like bringing back Ming the Merciless for a reboot of 'Flash Gordon' - been there, melted that. Miller's performance… Look, I know they've been through some stuff, but two different versions of Barry battling it out was... a lot. It just felt messy and a little exhausting. Honestly, I kept thinking about Christopher Reeve and how he managed to portray both Clark Kent and Superman with such effortless charm and distinction. 'The Flash' seemed to be trying way too hard to be clever, instead of just telling a good, solid story. Look, I'm not saying it's the worst superhero movie ever made, not by a long shot. I chuckled a few times, and Keaton did carry a lot of the film. But it's definitely not joining the ranks of my all-time favorites. It's more like a 'rental you half-watch while folding laundry then forget about by next week.' Anyone else feel like this was a missed opportunity?
