Lily Gladstone in KOTFM - just WOW. But...Leo?
Okay, just got out of Killers of the Flower Moon and I'm still processing. Lily Gladstone. Seriously. Words fail me. Her performance as Mollie Burkhart was so restrained, so heartbreaking. The way she conveyed everything with just her eyes… like that scene when she realizes what's really happening with the insulin? Gut-wrenching. I honestly think she should just get the Oscar now, skip the formalities. But here's my question, and I'm curious what everyone else thought: What did you make of Leonardo DiCaprio's Ernest? It's a really fascinatingly unlikable performance. Like, he's so clearly weak and easily manipulated, and it almost feels like he's trying to be a bad actor in some scenes? Was that intentional? I'm so used to seeing Leo as the charismatic lead, and this felt like a complete 180. It certainly kept me on edge, but I'm still not sure if it worked for me. Like, was he too dumb or was that the point? It's definitely a tough watch, and I'm not sure I'll be rushing back to see it again anytime soon. But Gladstone's performance alone is worth the price of admission. What are your thoughts on how Scorsese balanced portraying the evil deeds with respecting the Osage perspective? I'm still wrestling with that, too.
