"Anyone But You": Okay, Hear Me Out, This Rom-Com Has Layers (Maybe?)

Alright, so I just got back from seeing "Anyone But You," and honestly, I went in expecting brain candy. Which, yeah, it mostly is. But something's bugging me, and I wanna throw it out there. I think the sound design is subtly hinting at something deeper than just 'hate turns to love' fluff. Stick with me here... Specifically, notice how often they use diegetic sound to reflect the characters' internal states? For example, during the scenes where Bea and Ben are REALLY at odds, the background noise – the wedding party chatter, the ocean waves even – are almost too loud. It's like their inability to communicate effectively is visually (or aurally?) represented by the overwhelming environment. Conversely, when they start to genuinely connect, the soundscape becomes cleaner, more focused on their dialogue. I could be totally reaching, but it felt intentional. Also, there's a LOT of visual mirroring, which I think points to a 'destiny' sort of theme. Remember the scene when they're running on the beach, similar outfits, almost synchronous movement? That's not an accident. My wild theory? Bea and Ben are actually soulmates fighting against a pre-ordained destiny. The initial "fiery attraction turns cold" thing? Just a test. The sound design and visual cues are all reinforcing the idea that they're meant to be, and the conflict is simply external, societal pressure (and maybe their own stubbornness) trying to keep them apart. It's a classic trope elevated with a dash of style. Look, maybe I'm overthinking a rom-com after mainlining caffeine all day. But I'm throwing it out there. Plus the cast is crazy good looking they make the film so charming to look at. What did everyone else think? Am I seeing things that aren't there, or is "Anyone But You" secretly a profound meditation on love and fate disguised as a fluffy beach movie? Let me know!!
