Saltburn: Suicide on the Dancefloor? (And THAT Score!)
Okay, so I just saw "Saltburn" and...wow. I'm still processing. I went in knowing basically nothing except that everyone was losing their minds over it, and yeah, it's definitely something. The director, whoever it is, clearly has no fear. Visually, it's stunning, almost oppressively so, which I think is the point. The whole atmosphere is thick with this sort of decaying beauty, decadence oozing from every frame. But let's talk about the score! Absolutely killer. It's not wall-to-wall; the silences are just as important, but when it hits, it hits. There's a really smart mix of classical pieces (that 'Pie Jesu' moment in the chapel...chills!) with more modern, almost unsettling electronic textures. It perfectly captures the intoxicating and ultimately destructive nature of Oliver's obsession with Felix and the Catton family. I need to find a track list ASAP because I'm already obsessed. I'm not sure I'm as shocked as some people seem to be about the, uh, certain scenes, but they were definitely...memorable. Barry Keoghan is incredible. I will say, the ending felt a little rushed? Like, it went from simmering tension to full-blown crazy town a bit too quickly for my taste, but honestly, it didn't ruin the experience for me. I'm still turning it over in my head, which is always a sign of a good movie, right? Overall... I think "Saltburn" is a very good movie, but definitely not for everyone. If you're easily offended or squeamish, steer clear. But if you're looking for something visually striking, thematically rich, and features a phenomenal score, then it's worth checking out. Let me know what you guys thought! Especially about the music!
