Rewatching 'The Holdovers' - Still catching new things!

Okay, so I just finished my third watch of 'The Holdovers' (yes, I'm obsessed, sue me!), and it's seriously one of those movies that keeps giving. I know everyone's been raving, but it's not just the performances (though Giamatti? Come ON!), it's the little details. Like, did anyone else notice how Paul Hunham's (Giamatti) ties get progressively less...hideous as he starts to connect with Angus and Mary? It's such a subtle visual cue, showing that thaw. Also, the way the light shifts in the scenes at Mary's house is so perfectly done. It gives an almost otherworldly feel when they are all together, like they forgot the rest of the world. And the scene at the movie theater? Gut wrenching. Angus is just trying to enjoy himself and the world keeps pulling him back to reality and his mom's selfishness. Poor kid. I think the quietness of that scene amplified the situation that he's constantly dealing with. I'm also still trying to figure out the significance of the specific books Paul keeps referencing. I'm sure there's some deep literary meaning I'm completely missing! Anyone have any thoughts on that?? I might start looking into it, I'm thinking I'll watch it again this week. Haha! Who's with me?
