Air - Did anyone else catch that SWEET sound design?
Okay, so I just saw "Air" and while the whole story itself was cool and the performances were great (especially Affleck, I gotta say), I was really geeking out over some of the technical stuff. I'm dkim_films, for those who don't know me, I'm all about the details! Specifically, the sound design during the basketball scenes? Man, they really nailed the impact. Remember when Deloris (MJ's mom) is negotiating with Nike, and we get those flashback montages of Michael killing it on the court? The squeak of the shoes, the perfectly captured thwack of the ball hitting the net... it wasn't just 'background noise,' it felt like they actually microphoned a real game. I even noticed subtle differences in the sounds depending on the court surface - just AMAZING. Also, the 80's music was perfectly placed, but I kinda expect that tbh, more the sound nuance that grabbed me. But here's what I'm wondering: did anyone else notice the super subtle visual effects work during those basketball scenes? Like, was there some de-aging going on with the actors during those flashback moments? I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but something felt…enhanced. Not in a distracting way, but just enough to give those scenes some extra pop. Or maybe it was just the lighting and camera angles? I'm curious if anyone else picked up on that, or I'm just imagining things cause I spend too much time staring at screens looking for this stuff. Anyway, solid movie overall, but for me, the little technical details are what really elevated it. What were your favorite sound or visual moments? Let me know!
