Insidious: The Red Door - Did it stick the landing (or just trip?)

Okay, so I just got back from Insidious: The Red Door. As someone who preaches about pacing and structure, I gotta say, I'm... conflicted. The first two Insidious movies are legit classics in the horror world, right? Especially how that red-faced demon reveal was paced out in the original? Chef's kiss. But the sequels... well, let's just say they didn't quite hit the same high note. This one... it's got moments. I liked the idea of Dalton (Ty Simpkins, doing a good job) grappling with his repressed memories in art school – that whole vibe was genuinely unsettling. And Patrick Wilson directing himself? Interesting choice. Some of the visuals in The Further were creepier than others, though. I thought that scene with the frat party demon was kinda weak, tbh. Needed more build-up to really land the scare. My main issue? The middle act felt a little too long. Like, we get it, he's drawing spooky stuff. And the scares felt a bit... predictable at times. Not enough surprises to really get my heart racing. I'm not sure it needed to be a full 2 hours either, some tightening in the middle act would have gone pretty far. The ending itself, when Josh and Dalton finally confront their fears together, was definitely the strongest part, though. That connection between them felt earned, and it gave the story a decent sense of closure, even if it was kinda cheesy. Overall, The Red Door isn't terrible, but it's also not a return to form. It's a solid horror movie that maybe could have been a great horror movie if they had tightened up the structure just a bit more and added a few more surprises. What did you guys think? Did the red door lead anywhere interesting for you?
