Thanksgiving (2023): Pretty Solid Slasher, But Did Anyone Else Notice This?

Okay, so I just saw Thanksgiving (2023) and I gotta say, it was a pretty fun slasher! Definitely scratched that late November horror itch, haha. The gore was creative (maybe too creative in some places, like the corn on the cob scene... yikes lol) and I actually found myself caring about some of the characters, which is rare in these kinda movies. What I'm curious about, though, is the cinematography during the chase sequences. Specifically, did anyone else notice how much they used shaky cam? I get that it's supposed to create a sense of urgency and chaos, especially when the killer, John Carver, is chasing after Jessica and her friends. But at times it felt... excessive? Like, I was actually getting a little motion sick during the hospital scene. I'm wondering if it was a stylistic choice by the director to intentionally disorient the viewer, or if it was just... overdone. It also felt kinda like a lazy way out of building suspense through framing and editing. I'm a film student and I feel like I'm being picky, but did anyone else feel this way? Also, I'm trying to remember who directed it, but I can't seem to find the director listed anywhere. Maybe it was an intentional choice by the studio? It would be really cool to see the director comment on their style. I'm also curious about the choice to keep the John Carver reveal so late in the movie. I'm unsure whether it was the director's decision or the producers decided to keep Carver's identity ambiguous to play it safe. Overall, it was a fun watch, even if a bit predictable in places, but the shaky cam and direction are things I can't shake! What were your thoughts?
