Retribution (2023): Liam Neeson's Car Troubles & a Wild Theory...
Okay, so I finally got around to watching Retribution with Liam Neeson as the dad who suddenly finds his car's rigged with explosives. Look, I'm a big fan of international cinema, and while this is definitely more Hollywood action than, say, a perfectly paced Iranian thriller (haha!), it kept me entertained. But I've got a theory brewing ever since I saw it, and I need to air it out. Specifically, did anyone else think there was something fishy about the ex-wife, Heather? I mean, she pops up, all concerned, but she seemed almost…too calm given her kids are potentially about to be blown to smithereens. Maybe it's just a weird character choice actress-wise, but what if she was somehow involved? Hear me out: maybe her 'concern' was a cover, and she knew something about their father's dodgy dealings and this whole plot was a way to get him out of the picture. Think about it, she's conveniently out of the car and suddenly becomes a major plot point. Adding to this, there's the banking stuff which gets really complicated toward the end - which I could barely follow tbh (LOL). But what if she were also involved in the money scheme as well. Perhaps she helped set up the bank situation that got him into trouble in the first place. It all felt a bit rushed at the end, like they didn't quite know how to tie it all up neatly. Honestly, it's probably a stretch and I'm just projecting my love of twisty thrillers onto a relatively standard (but enjoyable!) action flick. But I always have to wonder these things when plots seem a bit...too convenient. Let me know what you guys think and if you have your own theories!
