Missing (2023) - Screenlife Thrillers, Yay or Nay?
Okay, so I just finished watching "Missing" (2023) and I have thoughts! I went in knowing basically nothing other than it's kinda like "Searching" with John Cho, which I loved. The whole screenlife thing is either really well done or just feels incredibly gimmicky, and I was cautiously optimistic here. Overall? I enjoyed it! Storm Reid was great as June. I really felt the desperation she was going through trying to find her mom. And honestly, the plot was pretty twisty. I definitely didn't see everything coming. There were a couple points where I was yelling at the screen, like, "Girl, check the cloud backups!" But I guess if she did that immediately, there wouldn't be a movie, right? The pacing was pretty solid too; it kept me engaged the whole time. I think the actors they cast made it feel authentic, even when some of the plot was a little far-fetched. My biggest gripe is probably with some of the tech stuff. I know they tried to make it seem realistic, but sometimes it felt like they were just throwing in every possible app and feature they could think of. It felt a little forced. Also, the ending felt slightly rushed. Like they had a good setup but didn't quite stick the landing as well as I'd hoped. BUT, that said, I think if you liked "Searching," you'll probably enjoy this one too. It's a fun, suspenseful ride even if it bends reality a little (or a lot). So, thoughts? Did anyone else catch this? What did you think of the use of the screenlife format? Was it too much, or did it work for you?
