We Saw Haunted Mansion - Was it Spooky... or Spook-tacular Fail?

Okay, so we finally saw the new Haunted Mansion movie (the 2023 one, obviously!). I was a little nervous going in because my youngest, Leo (he's 7), is easily spooked. But, overall, it was a pretty fun family outing. LaKeith Stanfield was great as Ben – he brought a lot of heart to the story, and his backstory was surprisingly moving. I really liked Tiffany Haddish, too. She was hilarious as the medium, but also had a serious side that gave her character some depth. Even Danny DeVito was a welcome addition as the quirky history professor. The special effects were pretty cool, especially the ghosts in the mansion itself. They weren't overly scary, but still creepy enough to be effective. There's this one scene in the endless hallway that genuinely made me jump! Leo hid behind his hands for a bit but then was laughing. I think the movie did a great job of balancing the spooky with the funny. It wasn't too intense for younger kids, but adults wouldn't be bored either. I will add - it's not a total kids movie, there are definitely more adult themes and it might be too scary for sensitive little ones. Plot-wise, it was fairly predictable, but the performances and the visuals kept me engaged. I gotta say, the Madame Leota crystal ball scenes were awesome! I'm a sucker for that kinda stuff. Did i think it was the best movie I had ever seen? Nope. But was it a great way to spend a few hours with my family? Absolutely. I think if you go in expecting a lighthearted, spooky adventure and not some cinematic masterpiece, you'll definitely have a good time. Has anyone else seen it yet? What were your thoughts? I'm curious if other parents felt the same way about the scariness level. My oldest (13) thought it was a bit tame, LOL!
